In addition to exploring experiments, scientific reading can help children explore scientific knowledge, and "Scientific Drawing" also helps children develop abilities of observation and aesthetics in the learning process of natural science. Therefore, Dashan Elementary School incorporates "Scientific Drawing" into formal curriculum and holds a exhibition of scientific drawing results every year.

As we know, some scientific education institutions, regardless of domestic or abroad, attach great importance to this learning activity. For example, the National Museum of Natural Science in Taiwan holds the "Scientific Drawing” competition and exhibition every year, and the National Museum of Nature and Science (Tsukuba Botanical Garden) in Tokyo, Japan also holds the " Botanical drawing contest” every year.

Dashan E.S. is located in the rural area of Houlong Town which has a unique countryside landscape and natural resources. The school districts such as Dashan Vil., Wanbao Vil. and Haibao Vil. are very close to the sea (Taiwan Strait). These natural environments have become children's treasury of fostering various knowledge, abilities and literacy. The grass, trees, birds, beasts, fish, crabs and shrimps in the school districts are all available materials for learning.

In the “Age of Discovery”, hundreds of years ago, lots of naturalists from Europe sailed to explore new species around the world. “Scientific Drawing” was a scientific tool they relied on to record the appearance of animals and plants. Even though the information technology and media equipment are becoming very popular nowadays, this ancient "scientific drawing" has become a learning activity for children to cultivate the competencies of observation, aesthetics and science.

What can children learn from a fish? Fish's body structures are bilaterally symmetrical (except for the flounder). This is a mathematical exercise. Fish can lay thousands even tens of thousands of eggs, but eventually only a few fishes can grow up. Especially under the pressure of marine plastic pollution and human over fishing, the future looks bleak. This is the course of "percentage" and "probability". The study of marine life is not just scientific knowledge. The integration of Chinese language is the creation of ecological literature, and the integration of art is “Scientific Drawing”.

"Scientific Drawing" is a project that can integrate natural science, reading literacy, marine education, and art. Although there is not “art talent class” in Dashan Elementary School, the children in fifth grade each year were always performing very well. This is due to Principal Sherry’s assistance and enlightenment since 2016. Thank Teacher Wu and Teacher Hsieh for their collaborative instruction so that every child can explore nature and science like a naturalist two hundred years ago. Inspected by "Directions Governing for the 12-year Basic Education Curricula" of Ministry of Education, the participating students have obtained "essential literacy":
